RuneScape: Dragonwilds, From MMORPG to Survival Crafting

In the year 2025, we are getting a NEW game in the RuneScape universe! RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the newest game set in Gielinor, and while some things like chopping trees and casting spells at enemies sound like a super familiar experience for anyone who has ever played Runescape before, this one will be a whole new take as it will be a 1-4 player survival crafting game.

After coming across the newly created Dragonwilds X account, where they made the announcement of thisir new game, I immediately started to dive in to find out what I could about this.

According to the Steam page, they have been alpha testing since late 2024 and plan to launch into an Early Access period in Spring 2025, so I would assume that means basically anytime between now and June.

In short, they say, "The early access version of the game contains the first few regions, survival systems, RuneScape skills as well as magic survival spells, gear to craft, a robust building system, challenging combat, dungeons to delve, the first dragon to fight, creating a blend of survival and RuneScape."

For the early access plan, they say that "We intend to continue to add more systems, skill spells, and entire skills to deepen your experience within Dragonwilds, with additional content such as new skills to level, new quests to complete, new enemies to fight, as well as new seasonal events, resources to craft with, and vaults to uncover. There'll be plenty to explore and enjoy alone or with friends."

On their Steam page they have up, you can see a bit of what this game will look like, and I have to be honest, the hype is real for me. I grew up playing RuneScape and still dabble in Old School RuneScape today.

From the little we can see, graphically, it looks like they are trying to blend that RuneScape look with a new, improved artstyle to fit it into a survival crafting RPG world.

If you know me at all, you also know that one of my favorite genres in gaming right now is the survival crafting game. From Valheim, Grounded, and VRising to Corekeeper or classics like Minecraft and Terraria, this has become one of my favorite genres to really get into.
