While the story of Gearlt has come to a conclusion after the Witcher 3: Blood and Wine expansion DLC, there are still more stories to be told in the Witcher universe.
CD Projekt Red posted to twitter today to announce that they have begun development of the next game that will be set in the Witcher universe.
While there is only a single image of a Witcher medallion from the school of the cat, CD Projekt released a press release along with a few other tweets to give a bit more information on the subject.
They said in the press release that development will be done on the Unreal Engine 5, in partnership with Epic Games. This is a major change as the previous few titles including The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 were developed on the REDengine.
Some twitter users immediately began to ask if this meant the next game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC.
Although as CD Projekt, the parent company, owns the GOG storefront, the wording still could be open enough that this means the game could release only EGS and GOG. Technically more than one storefront. Hopefully they remain true to what they have done in the past and made it available to everywhere.
The Cyberpunk twitter account made a statement in support of the Witcher announcement and added some reassurance to those still waiting on further developments for the futuristic RPG.
Pawel Sasko, the lead quest designer for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, made a statement of support on twitter as well.
There is no other information about this game other than that it exists now. I am a huge fan of both the Witcher and Cyberpunk so I was very excited to see this announcement.
