Devolver Digital takes my vote as best opening e3 2021 show

Devolver Digital a game publisher presented their show right after Ubisoft on the first day of e3 2021 and they did it in the classic Devolver Digital fashion.

I really think I prefer the recorded scripted version of a presentation that features skits and makes an entertaining time out of a conference compared to the often cringe worthy live conferences that often times try to appeal to the EPIC GAMERS out there with 'funny' and usually awkward presentation.

Devolver Digital has always committed to being the weird edgy publisher but they do it so well.

They kicked of today announcing the new Devolver MAX pass+ a free subscription that allows consumers the opportunity to purchase premium Devolver Digital games.

This was basically a jab at all the subscription-based live-service models out in the market that have taken over the last few years.

I encourage you to go back and watch the whole show since it was more than just presentation and was fun to watch a publisher have personality.

Overall I thought this conference was great, entertaining and they showed a lot of good looking games coming soon.

Trek to Yomi

First game out the gate was Trek to Yomi.

This is a side-scroller samurai game that looks like an old samurai black and white movie.

This looked really interesting and will be coming to PS5 Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2022.

Wizard with a Gun

My Personal favorite of the show Wizard with a Gun looks a lot like a 'Don't Starve' survival game with a focus on RPG elements.

It is listed as a online co-op sandbox survival game set in a magical wilderness with dangerous creatures. Collect, Craft and outfit your wizard to explore the unknown.

It looks fun and the name itself makes me chuckle.

Inscryption

Slay the Spire introduced me to digital deck building games and rouge likes at the same time.

Inscryption looks like another take on that idea with a dark candle-lit inky adventure of trying to escape the dark woods.

I love card games and this one looks great.

Devolver Tumble Time

Devolver Tumble Time, I thought this was one of their bits where they make fun of something but this is a real game. It looks like a physics-based puzzle game featuring a collection of characters from across the many Devolver games.

This is a Apple IOS and Android game

Death's Door

This is a game where crows are in charge of collecting souls and you get your soul stolen and got to get it back.

Its a top-down ARPG style game and the art style is dark and colorful and I want it.

Phantom Abyss

Imagine being Indiana Jones and trying to steal the temple's artifact but it is in a ever changing procedurally generated dungeon and each time you attempt and fail you will never see that same temple layout again. Well that's Phantom Abyss.

A first person game where you run through temples trying to steal the artifact. Lots of traps, lots of deadly chambers and lots of death.

Shadow Warrior 3

I have never played a shadow warrior game but they always get me intrigued when I see one so I don't know why I haven't played one yet.

Shadow Warrior 3 looks insane and fast with tons of action and movement and killing.

What else do you need to know.

Terra Nil

Lastly, they showed a new take on a city builder but its the opposite. You are tasked with turning a barren wasteland into a thriving natural ecosystem.

This game looks cozy and colorful. I like sim/builder games so I might check this out.
