Biomutant is coming to PC, Playstation and Xbox on May 25th and it seems like one of those games that kind of sneaks under the radar when it launches.
I think outside of some content creators and the occasional IGN article Biomutant has really kept quiet for much of its development time.
It first was announced in August of 2017 when THQ Nordic and indie dev Experiment 101, a team built of old Just Cause devs, showed the world their announcement trailer showing a mutant raccoon looking creature fighting a much bigger mutant creature.
WHAT IS THIS
Initially I thought it looked cool but wasn't thinking much of it until very recently when I looked through more of their trailers and deep dives that have come out over the last few years.
Biomutant is a game that is described as a game that lets you take advantage of "mutations, bionic prosthetics, and weapons" to customize your characters to your liking, and involves many choices players will make in augmenting their characters "impact the way your hero plays in real-time combat." Combat is also described as a cross between martial-arts and small-arms skirmishes.
After doing some looking into the game it looks like you will be building your character down to the way they look to make your very own 'Biomutant' creature and everything that is customizable affects your character visually and game play wise.
It is going to be a third-biomutant'person' open world Action RPG with a focus on crafting your desired Biomutant while taking on the worlds challenges.
Holy lordy does it LOOK good
Visually this game is COLORFUL and very vibrant. I'm pretty excited to dive into this world just because of how beautiful it looks.
I get very similar Breath of the Wild vibes from the post-apocalyptic world and design that will have me playing for hours just exploring the every inch of this game.
On a PC gameplay looks SMOOTH and CRISP.
AND THE COMBAT
The combat in this game looks fluid, fast and STYLISH. When they punch a character and a comic-book KAPOW pops up on screen while jumping and dashing away from an exploding barrel that damages the bigger creature I see an extremely fun combat system that is entertaining EVERY... SINGLE...TIME.
CAN YOU SAY CUSTOMIZATION?
Biomutant looks like it is completely built on the idea of giving the player full range of customization in many aspects of the game.
From character customization:
To Guns, weapons and equipment:
To the story of the hero's journey as a Biomutant creature:
MY FINAL THOUGHTS
I will be playing it when it drops, I am just now getting into seeing what the game is about but just looking at it makes me want to try it.
I hope it has the BOTW feel with a good mix of its own thing as it pulls from tons of different genres and give a new creative look to it.
At this point Breath of the Wild is basically a genre and I am here for that.
The game will offer a few editions with the Standard being $60, a Collectors edition that is $119 that comes with some collectible goodies, and a third Atomic edition that I am not even sure is available anymore for $399.00. You can buy it on their website at Biomutant.com.
I have a good feeling this will be one of those games that a ton of streamers will play to try out and get a lot of attention thanks to the streaming world, but we will have to see next Tuesday.
It launches May 25th, so I hope that between the Mass Effect Legendary Edition last week and Ratchet and Clank the week after, Biomutant will see some love from the gaming world because I think I will be in love day 1.
