Why I am not scared about the Cyberpunk delay

It is no secret everyone is a bit disappointed that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed yet again this time from September to November.

I for one want this game as soon as I can get it.

But here is why I am not up-in-arms or worried in the slightest about the state of Cyberpunk and CD Projekt RED.

CD Projekt RED has proven since 2015 that they are a trustworthy company when it comes to game development.

The Witcher 3 was delayed a handful of times and that game is easily in my top 3 games of all time.

Since the launch of the Witcher 3 they released two worthy DLC packs; one being bigger than some games in the genre. They released multiple pieces of free DLC for the game along with long-term continued support over the years fixing bugs; something not common for single-player games.

After the Witcher they have been consistent in quality with the release of their standalone Gwent card game, and the Thronebreaker title that gave just a little bit more of that sweet witcher feel.

All of this while the hype kept building for what could be the Game of the Year/Decade/Century/Ever.

For many, game delays seem to mean negative things for game development as it is often linked to games like Duke Nukem and Crackdown 3; two games delayed multiple times over years of development.

While these games suffered from a number of things that caused these games to release in such terrible ways, delays may or may not have been a big factor in that.

There are plenty of examples of delays working well for the game and its success. Games like Ocarina of Time, Breath of the Wild, Persona 5 and Resident Evil 4 saw delays of up to two-three years after the initial release dates; yet these games are among the greatest games ever made. There are even more examples of games that definitely would have done much better had they taken the bullet and delayed to work on them a bit more.

For me, CD Projekt RED is using these delays to make sure they deliver what everyone is hoping for. They have a lot of hype rolling for their game; so much so that I don't remember the last time a game had this much hype. That is a scary mountain to top.

They have openly stated that they are using this extra two months to make sure everything is smooth and works right. They said that the game is completely finished and all they are doing is smoothing out every last wrinkle they can before launch.

I want everything and more for this game and company so I am happy they are willing to sacrifice the trust they have with some people and the hype they have gained in order to make sure the final is everything they want it to be.

In an industry full of rushed releases, unfinished products and cash grabs; I believe CD Projekt RED will show how a bit of extra love can payoff.

Don't count out Cyberpunk just yet because I promise you the wait will be worth it.
