First before reading watch the trailer for this game, its like an M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Ok, WTF.

Imagine Pokemon but the Dollar Tree version, and then include guns, slavery and animal cruelty.

Uh... that gets you Palworld... I guess?

Palworld is a game from Pocketpair the studio that brought a game called Craftopia.

Craftopia released in July of 2020 with some hype behind it promising a multiplayer survival/crafting game.

Craftopia is the brand new multiplayer survival action game made in Japan. We combined many features we find enjoyable, such as hunting, farming, hack-and-slash, building, automation to develop this game. - Steam

The game has decent reviews on steam, with many noting that the devs promised more to come and fixes after launch. A year after release they have announced their next project with Palworld.

This has many fans of Craftopia confused as there has been little support from the dev team and not much known about the future of the game and many not hopeful now that they have seemed to move on to a new game.

I did not play Craftopia, but a few tweets from Gothalion, a streamer who creates a lot of content around playing smaller 'indie' style games, spoke about how Craftopia promised a lot and was a janky release with a lot of under-cooked parts. He also notes that many assets including music, monsters and other pieces are taken straight out of Craftopia.

This is pretty normal in development in many projects but for a game to not have a great launch and over promised to do that brings up some questions.

I think Palworld looks funny and the trailer has sparked a lot of conversation over it on Twitter today so maybe it has some success when it eventually launches, or more likely its a flop.
